The paralegal cannot provide legal advice. In the State of California, in order for a paralegal (us) to assist a member of the general public (you), they are required to be supervised by an attorney. A supervising attorney will represent you in a limited capacity for the sole purpose of providing legal advice and to supervise your document preparation, as well as final review of all documents to be submitted to the court.
The documents are completed in your name as a self-representing party and you would make any court appearances should that become necessary. The attorney's name does not appear on your documents and they are not your attorney of record. You will remain 100% self-representing and you are responsible for making any court appearances should that be necessary. When you come in for your initial consultation with Family Law Paralegal Services, you will meet with one of our paralegals and very briefly with a Certified Family Law Specialist (family law attorney), who will answer your questions and listen to your concerns about your divorce, then offer you legal advice. The attorney instructs Family Law Paralegal Services how to proceed in your divorce, and we take it from there.

Please complete the Intake Sheet in its entirety and provide it to the paralegal 24 hours in advance of your scheduled meeting. At the end of the document please insert any legal questions or concerns you would like the attorney to specifically address at your meeting.
Additionally, and prior to your first meeting, please provide our office with your last two months' pay stubs, last filed personal tax return, the prior year-end W-2 Form and 1099-MISC Income statement, and any prior court orders concerning your matter. If you are self-employed or have an ownership interest in a business, please also provide your last year-end and current year-to-date profit and loss statements.
You can either scan your documents to us via email to info@abaparalegal.com, or fax it to (858)748-2681. This will allow the attorney and paralegal to review your documents before you arrive so that they can run support calculations at your meeting allowing the attorney to fully advise you on the issues of support and other matters. It has been our experience that this is a significant cost savings to you to provide this information in advance of your initial meeting.
